Description: The RFA program provides cost-share grants for
equipment, training, and fire prevention and mitigation activities
for those rural/volunteer fire departments (RFDs) that protect rural
communities and play a substantial cooperative role in the
suppression of wildland fires in, on, or near United States Fish and
Wildlife Service (FWS) lands. Eligibility includes: state
governments; county governments; city or township governments;
special district governments; nonprofits having a 501(c)(3) status
with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education.

The Rural Health Care Services Outreach Grant Program encourages the development of new and innovative health care delivery systems in rural communities that lack essential health care services. Creative strategies should be used requiring the grantee to form a consortium with at least two additional partners. Previous consortiums have included schools, churches, emergency medical service providers, local universities, private practitioners and the like, which have been used by rural communities to create hospice care, bring health check-ups to children, and provide prenatal care to women in remote areas.
